The network's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Substantial Renewal for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, evoking a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. In an era often characterized by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.
"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
Network Praise
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and supported its peculiarly charming sensibility.
"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about following this endearing family go about their everyday routines.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to evolve comedy past its current layer of irony. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to bask in the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
